U12 and U10 Weekend Update 1/12 and 1/13

Hello U12 and U10 Families,

This email is chock full of info, so please read carefully!  A big congrats to our U12 athletes who competed at Killington in the Skills and Dual Panel SL event!  Great day with great results! Nice way to start the season :)!

Weekend of 1/12 and 1/13:

Saturday: U12s race Stubby SL at Quechee (no chin guards) and U10s race dual Stubby SL at Pico (no chin guards).  See details below with links to online registration!

Sunday: U12s and U10s will both be training SL at home.  U12s should have chin guards for tall gates.

Also, Cami and Chloe Blount (fellow Okemo U12 and U10s) are hosting their second annual fundraiser for cancer research - Runs for Research - this weekend!  Learn more about the event and how to support it here: https://jvblount.wixsite.com/runs4research If you have any questions, email runs4research@gmail.com.

Looking ahead - weekend of 1/19 and 1/20:

U10s will train according to regular schedule on Saturday and Sunday.  They will be doing Skills on SL skis.  There is no U10 training on Monday - take the day to free ski as a family if you are able to be here.

For the U12s there is a special opportunity - An OMARA sponsored Speed Elements Camp with former USST member Marco Sullivan and his wife Anna (see attachment for more details - U10s are welcome to attend the Meet and Greet Saturday afternoon at OMS). This event will actually take place Friday 1/18 - Monday 1/21, but it is not necessary to attend every day in order to participate.   The daily schedule of the camp will integrate into the normal U12 training schedule on Saturday and Sunday taking the place of the PM training session (see below).  The Friday and Monday sessions will be a bonus - the only training those days will be the camp session from 12:30 - 3 pm (unless your athlete is a Friday training participant for the season - info to come in usual weekly email).  There is no cost or need to sign up formally for this event, but please reply to this email if you think your child might attend either Friday or Monday so I can get an approximate head count (it is assumed they will attend Sat/Sunday).  U12s should be on GS skis each day. Thanks to OMARA for sponsoring a great opportunity!

Quechee U12 Stubby SL Details: You must register your athlete at this link: https://adminskiracing.com/node/196389  BY THURSDAY 1/10 at 5 PM

On Saturday registration is in the basement of the Quechee base lodge from 7:30-8:30 am. Your athlete will get his or her lift ticket and bib here - please have them register themselves but keep the reminders coming about not losing bibs! Parent tickets are $22 and sibling tickets are $18 and available at the ticket booth at the bottom of the chair.  You do not need to ski to be able to view the race, but if you are skiing please help with jackets.

Coaches will meet the athletes at 8:25 am at the base of the lift to go for free runs and inspection.  The first run starts at 9:15 am and the second run will start about an hour after the first run ends.  Keep in mind that the athletes will meet their coaches again for second run inspection.  Athletes should listen to coaches and announcements for a time for second run inspection and start times.  Second run is in reverse order within gender and awards are combined time about one hour after the completion of the race.

PLEASE NOTE: There is no "tailgating" allowed at Quechee.  Please do not bring large amounts of outside food or beverages to set up either in the parking lot or on the deck. (Modest packed lunches are OK). Quechee is a private golf/country club and the ski club is lucky to be able to operate and host races there.  NO DOGS are allowed either.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS to Quechee:

Take 100 North (the right hand turn before Jackson Gore). In Plymouth, take a right onto 100A. When this dead ends at Rt 4, take a right. This will go through Bridgewater and Woodstock - watch for cops in both towns! The speed limit goes down to 25 twice - obey the speed limit. Continue through Woodstock and after a few miles as you come to the town of Taftsville (don't blink) you will see a big red covered bridge with a green roof on the left.  Take a left to get to the bridge.  Go across it and head straight up the hill.  Follow this road for a mile or two until you see Quechee on your left.  You can either park before the white building (base lodge) or after it.   It takes about 50-60 minutes to get to Quechee.

Pico U10 Dual Stubby SL: You must register your child at this link https://adminskiracing.com/node/181322 BY FRIDAY 1/11 at 9:30 AM!

On Saturday registration is from 7:30 - 8:30 am in the upstairs of the Andrea Mead Lawrence Lodge, which is in between the Pico Ski Club and The Ski Shop/Main Lodge.  Have your athlete register themselves please!  Please remind athletes to put their bibs on immediately and do not lose them! We have to leave our bags and get ready downstairs in the Main Base Lodge (park on the right hand side of the main parking lot and go straight through the condos - base lodge is on the right), not in the Andrea Mead Lawrence Lodge.

Coaches will meet athletes at 8:25 am in front of ski club which is at the at the base of the B-slope lift/bottom of the race trail (go out of the base lodge and go left if you are facing the mountain) to go for inspection and free runs.  First run will start at 9:30 am.  Girls will run in bib order on the Red Course and boys will run in bib order on the Blue Course  Second run will begin immediately after the first in the same order.  Then there will be a 3rd fun run where times will be announced but no official results published.  Awards will take place in front of the ski club, which is basically at the finish area about 20-30 minutes after the race.  Listen for announcements.  Awards will be given top ten for each gender for each athlete's best single run of the first two runs, plus the top 3 athletes from the 3rd run (gender mixed) will get an award.

think parent lift tickets are as follows...if I find out otherwise I will let you know: $45 but only two per racer are allowed. They must be purchased at the main ticket office between the parking lot and the base lodge - NOT at registration. Only sold until 9:00 AM and you have to know your child's bib number - be prepared! As many of you know, the race can be viewed on foot without lift access.  If you are skiing, please help with bringing jackets down.

Driving directions to get to Pico: Head north on Rt. 100 - make a right to stay on Rt. 100 just before Jackson Gore. Turn left on Rt. 4 and go past the Bear Mtn. gondola for Killington and past the Killington access road. About 2 miles past that, you will see The Inn at Long Trail on your right - Pico will be on your left just down the hill. It takes about 35-45 minutes to get there. Beware of cops in Plymouth on Rt 100 when the speed limit drops!!

That's all for now!

Thanks,Mariel
