U12 and U10 Weekend of 1/26 +1/27 + 2/1 U10/12 SL Camp Reg and Info
Hello U12 and U10 Families,
Thanks for your patience through last weekend and changes to schedules....if there's one sure thing in ski racing, it is that you can expect last minute changes often! That being said, I hope everyone really enjoyed the snow and I KNOW that the U12s enjoyed the training with Marco and Anna Sullivan! Thank you OMARA and William Raveis Vermont Properties for sponsoring! Read on for training/racing info for this weekend and important information on upcoming events.
Weekend of 1/26 and 1/27:
Saturday: U12s and U10s are both training at home on GS skis.
Sunday: U12s race GS at Pico (register here: https://adminskiracing.com/node/181324 and see below for details); U10s train skills at home on SL skis.
Don't forget to check out Cocktails for Scholarships with the Myra Flynn Band this Saturday 1/26 for an amazing evening of live music, hors d'ouvres and cocktails in support of Okemo Mountain School's scholarships and financial aid. A big thank you to William Raveis Vermont Properties for sponsoring. Click HERE to buy your tickets before the event sells out! Myra has an incredible voice - originally from VT she is now lighting up the music scene in LA and it is a huge treat to have her here! Please come - Mike and I will be there and would love to see you all!
Friday 2/1: U12/10 SL Camp at Quechee - we will not be doing a lottery this year. Anyone who wants to go may go - register here https://adminskiracing.com/node/196393 by Monday 1/28 at 5 pm. The day will proceed much like a race day in that you will drive your child to Quechee in the morning for a 7:30 am registration. Your child will then join up with a group of other similarly aged racers from all of the MVC mountains to work through a series of freeskiing and gate drills focusing on slalom. After lunch (your child will need to pack a lunch or bring money to buy a lunch), there will be dual stubby SL course for U10s and a dual Tall Gate SL course set for U12s to run. The day will end at 2:30 pm. Will send details next week, but be sure to sign up by Monday if you are interested!
Saturday 2/2: U12s race Tall Gate SL at Suicide Six (register here: https://adminskiracing.com/node/181423 details to come); U10s train at home on SL skis
Sunday 2/3: U12s train GS at home, U10s train Skills/Panel SL at home (SL skis)
Details for U12 GS at Pico Sunday 1/27:
Again you MUST pre-register and pay your athlete's entry by 1/26 at 9:30 am here: https://adminskiracing.com/node/181324
On Saturday registration is from 7:30 - 8:30 am in the upstairs of the Andrea Mead Lawrence Lodge, which is in between the Pico Ski Club and The Ski Shop/Main Lodge. Have your athlete register themselves please! Please remind athletes to put their bibs on immediately and do not lose them! We have to leave our bags and get ready downstairs in the Main Base Lodge (park on the right hand side of the main parking lot and go straight through the condos - base lodge is on the right), not in the Andrea Mead Lawrence Lodge. I think parent lift tickets are $45 and available at registration, but you do not need to ski to watch the race.
Coaches will meet athletes at 8:25 am in front of ski club which is at the at the base of the B-slope lift/bottom of the race trail (go out of the base lodge and go left if you are facing the mountain) to go for inspection and free runs. First run will start at 9:30 am. Girls will run in bib order and then boys. The course will be re-set for second run and second run will be in reverse bib order within gender (girls still go first). Second run inspection will begin shortly after the conclusion of the first once the course is re-set. Athletes should listen to coaches for a meeting time for second run inspection and start time. Awards will take place in front of the ski club, which is basically at the finish area about 20-30 minutes after the race. Listen for announcements. Awards will be given top ten for each gender based on each athlete's combined time.
Driving directions to get to Pico: Head north on Rt. 100 - make a right to stay on Rt. 100 just before Jackson Gore. Turn left on Rt. 4 and go past the Bear Mtn. gondola for Killington and past the Killington access road. About 2 miles past that, you will see The Inn at Long Trail on your right - Pico will be on your left just down the hill. It takes about 35-45 minutes to get there. Beware of cops in Plymouth on Rt 100 when the speed limit drops!!
