U12 and U10 Training Weekend of 12/8 and 12/9
Hello U12 and U10 Families,
I hope this email finds you well and enjoying this amazing start to the winter season!
Reminder: Please read the "U12 and U10 101" attachment which can be found HERE for LOTS of information about the program including training and race schedules (always subject to change - and has since I first sent it!) - this is helpful for new and returning families. There have been several updates for this season each of which is in bold and italics in the packet! So even if you are an old pro, PLEASE read :)! If you have any questions after reading, don't hesitate to be in touch.
Weekend of 12/8 and 12/9:
Saturday and Sunday we will be on SL skis (no armor needed) for freeskiing and drill work training according to our normal schedule (8:30-10:30am/12-2pm meeting at top of AB Quad both am and pm). Looking ahead we will also be on GS skis 12/15 and 12/16.
I hope to see you all Saturday night 12/8 at The OMS Board of Directors' Reception at OMS in our Fitness Facility (53 Main St in Ludlow) from 7 - 9 pm - a fun evening of seeing what's new at OMS and mingling with fellow parents - past, present, and future - while enjoying hors d'oeuvres from Stemwinder and A Catered Affair and drinks! A great way to learn about the opportunities that exist for your athlete at OMS and support OMS' Wish List through the Giving Tree! If you can't make it to this event, check out our Wish List online! This event is most appropriate for adults only.
***Friday training: Anyone who has signed their children up for Friday training (you must sign up for the "3 day" option with the Comp Center), training for Friday U10/12s will start on Friday, December 7th. You will receive separate communication on this each week ONLY IF you have completed registration for this. I usually send it some time after my regular weekly email.
Other important info:
Competition Center Registration: Competition Center registration can be done online here: https://www.okemo.com/mountain-info/competition-programs/ In addition you need to complete and return the waiver and health summary forms, which you should have received from Maggie Seiple, the new Comp Center admin, PRIOR to sending your child to training. They can also be found here & here for your convenience! If your child attends OMS, OMS will forward the necessary forms.
OMARA has launched a new website - check it out at: go2omara.com. You can access the U10 and U12 training and racing schedule (with very basic info) here: https://www.go2omara.com/alpine (scroll to the bottom of the page to find the calendars). You can also access a copy of this email under the Updates section on the right hand side of this page: https://www.go2omara.com/u10u12-alpine
Important Reminder on US Ski and Snowboard and VARA memberships: In order to race, every U12 or U10 must be a current USSS and VARA member. If you have not registered your child for these memberships, please do so ASAP. Both can be done online at https://usskiandsnowboard.org/membership and vara.org, respectively. More info on these memberships is found in the attachment. IMPORTANT: For USSS choose, Alpine Competitor U12 and under, NOT General Member - this is not valid for competition. Also your athlete's club should be Okemo Mountain Ski Club or Competition Center....not Okemo Mountain School, unless they are enrolled for 2018-2019.
Volkswagen presents Warren Miller's Line of Descent Movie Premier: December 15th at OMS in the Fitness Facility at 5 and 8 pm. Tickets available here: https://www.okemomountainschool.org/events-calendar/2018/12/15/face-of-winter-b7pwl Get yours before they sell out!
Okemo Mountain School Holiday Hammer Camp: The Annual OMS Holiday Hammer Camp, which this year is from December 17th-21st, is open to any athlete who was in the U12 or U10 program last winter, no first year participants. This is a great opportunity for some extra training and a taste of ski academy life! Please use our online form to register by clicking HERE. Please note that the camp is a very long day for younger athletes and it may not be the best idea for them. The camp will also be staffed by other U12/10 coaches, as well as OMS coaches. Please note: THIS IS ONLY A DAY CAMP - no housing is provided.
That's all for now! Both new and old parents are reminded to read all communication carefully. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to email me. I look forward to seeing you all soon, as do all of the other coaches!!
Thanks and Think SNOW!!
